TO: ALL DEALERS
SUBJECT: TIRE REGISTRATION
Tire registration provides the manufacturer a method of quickly contacting consumers in the event of a recall, thus allowing for tires to be removed from service as quickly as possible. Voluntary tire registration became effective March 26th, 1984. The law is very specific about the legal responsibilities of dealers concerning compliance, consumer information, and distribution requirements.
Specifically, tire retailers are legally bound to distribute a registration form to the consumer at the point-of-sale, after first filling in the tire identification numbers and the dealer's business name and address. The consumer must then complete the registration form, apply the necessary postage, and mail the self-addressed card.
If you distribute tires to dealers for resale, you must provide an adequate number of registration cards to those dealers for registration purposes.
We strongly suggest you instruct all of your sales employees as to the importance and necessity to comply with the law.
Tire registration is good for everyone.
Potential penalties and fines apply!
